Venom 2 is officially a go, may get a new director

January 8, 2019 by Gary Collinson

After scoring a huge success this past October with over $855 million at the global box office, Sony Pictures is now officially moving ahead with a sequel to its Marvel blockbuster Venom.

According to Variety, the studio has enlisted Kelly Marcel, a writer and produce on the first movie, to pen the script for Venom 2, which will see the return of Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock, Michelle Williams as Anne Weying, and Woody Harrelson as Cletus Kasady, a.k.a. Carnage.

Sony had already set a release date of October 2nd 2020 for an ‘Untitled Marvel Sequel’, but with director Ruben Fleischer busy working on the long-awaited Zombieland 2, the site is reporting that the studio may look to bring in another filmmaker for the symbiote’s second big screen outing. However, a decision is yet to be made.

Venom marked the first instalment in a shared cinematic universe dubbed ‘Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters’, and Sony is next moving ahead with a Morbius, the Living Vampire movie starring Jared Leto, which is scheduled for release on July 10th 2020.
