Video Review – I Know What You Did Last Summer is how you do a legacy sequel

July 17, 2025 by EJ Moreno

EJ Moreno with his thoughts on the new I Know What You Did Last Summer…

If you are looking for the ideal summer slasher, look no further than I Know What You Did Last Summer. Not the 1997 original film, or one of its lesser sequels; we are looking at the 2025 update on the seaside slasher.

When all we can ask for is a bit more fun with our entertainment in these wild days, a cheeky lore-obsessed legacy sequel to one of the only good post-Scream ’90s slashers is the reason to go to the cinemas. When the world gets hot outside and all too rough, Jennifer Kaytin Robinson’s pitch-perfect update brings us back to the days of Sleepaway Camp, Friday the 13th, and the original I Know What You Did Last Summer.

Check out the review below, and be sure to follow us on YouTube for more reviews, exclusive interviews, and other video content…

When five friends inadvertently cause a deadly car accident, they cover up their involvement and make a pact to keep it a secret rather than face the consequences. A year later, their past comes back to haunt them and they’re forced to confront a horrifying truth: someone knows what they did last summer…and is hell-bent on revenge. As one by one the friends are stalked by a killer, they discover this has happened before, and they turn to two survivors of the legendary Southport Massacre of 1997 for help.

The film reunites original stars Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. with franchise newcomers Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, Sarah Pidgeon, Billy Campbell, Gabrielle, and Austin Nichols.
