Vin Diesel announces new Riddick movie and TV series

November 22, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Back in January last year, Vin Diesel revealed that Universal Pictures was keen on another instalment in the Riddick franchise, and now the actor has officially announced a fourth film in the series, entitled Furia, along with a TV spinoff Merc City.

“Last night out company had a party to launch our TV division,” said Diesel on Instagram. “Very exciting. Merc City is a show that will follow the Mercs and Bounty Hunters of the Riddick universe. Next month, David Twohy begins writing the next chapter in the Chronicles of Riddick… Furia.”

The franchise launched in 2000 with Pitch Black, and was followed by 2004’s The Chronicles of Riddick and 2013’s Riddick, along with the animated shorts The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury and Riddick: Blindsided. The films themselves have only been moderate box office successes, but the franchise has developed a strong cult following.
