Vin Diesel, Megan Fox, Jason Momoa, Ronda Rousey and Liam Neeson rumoured for Mortal Kombat reboot

June 30, 2016 by Luke Owen

Take this bit of news with a pinch of salt, but there are some rumours floating around the Internet that the Mortal Kombat reboot has a cast in place – and it’s pretty star studded.

According to website Frag Hero – who claim this story to be confirmed – Vin Diesel (Guardians of the Galaxy), Megan Fox (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows), Jason Momoa (Justice League), Ronda Rousey (Furious 7) and Liam Neeson (Taken) have joined the cast of the James Wan-produced Mortal Kombat reboot. Not only that, but Robin Shou – who played Liu Kang in Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat: Annihilation – will return to the series to play the villainous Shang Tsung along with Michael Jai White reprising his role of Jax from Mortal Kombat: Legacy.

Here’s the rumoured cast list:

Vin Diesel as Shao Khan
Megan Fox as Kitana
Robin Shou as Shang Tsung
Daniel Wu as Liu Kang
Manu Bennett as Kano
Scott Adkins as Johnny Cage
Jason Momoa as Nightwolf
Tony Jaa as Scorpion
Ronda Rousey as Sonya Blade
Michael Jai White as Jax
Iko Uwais as Sub Zero
Liam Neeson as Raiden

As we said earlier, take this with a huge pinch of salt. Frag Hero aren’t a website with a huge amount of credibility and some have already written this off as little more than fan-casting. The movie doesn’t even have a director yet and we’ve not heard anything about a writer either…

Mortal Kombat first hit the arcades in 1992 by Midway Games, with the first film arriving in 1995; directed by Paul W.S. Anderson (Event Horizon), grossing $122 million worldwide. The sequel, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, was released in 1997 and directed by John R. Leonetti (Annabelle), and only managed $51 million. A TV series, Mortal Kombat: Conquest, also aired in 1998. Plans for a third movie, titled Mortal Kombat: Devastation, never materialised due to problems with New Line being folded into Warner Bros, Midway filing for bankruptcy and Threshold suing the video game publisher for the rights over the game’s development. James Wan was announced as the producer of a Mortal Kombat reboot following the departure of Kevin Tancharoen (Mortal Kombat: Legacy).
