Yes, Diesel will partner with Mattel Films and Universal to bring the classic tabletop boxing robots game to the big screen. Diesel is producing with One Race Films and partner Samantha Vincent. 2018’s Rampage writer Ryan Engle penned the screenplay.

Deadline reports that the film will follow a “father and son who form an unlikely bond with an advanced war machine.”

Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots was first launched in 1964 and saw a resurgence in the 90s and 00s. any felt it served as inspiration for the 2011 film Real Steel, but this  will mark the first time that the iconic name of Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots will come to the cinemas.

“We are proud to bring this iconic piece of Mattel IP to life on the big screen with our tremendously talented partners Vin Diesel, One Race Films, and Universal,” says EP of Mattel Films, Robbie Brenner. “Our rich library of franchises continues to yield compelling stories and we look forward to creating what is sure to be a thrilling action-adventure for the whole family to enjoy with Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots.”
