Two years after House of the Dragon concluded its second season, the Game of Thrones prequel is set to return in June for its third in June. HBO released the first teaser trailer for the upcoming season which showcases the Targaryen civil war heating up as Rhaenyra prepares to send more dragons into battle and Aemond takes the Iron Throne in his brother’s absence.

The third season will focus on the escalating battles between the Black and Green factions of the Targaryen dynasty as Rhaenyra fights for her place on the Iron Throne after it was usurped by her half-brother Aegon with the coup led by her former best friend Alicient Hightower. The trailer gives fans glimpses of several significant battles during the war, such as the Butcher’s Ball and the Battle of the Gullett.
House of the Dragon is the first Game of Thrones spin-off prequel in the franchise, taking place nearly 200 years prior to the original flagship series. HBO recently premiered the first season of its second prequel series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms which is set 100 years before GOT. House of the Dragon stars Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Matt Smith, Steve Toussaint, Rhys Ifans, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall, Matthew Needham, Tom Bennett, Kieran Bew, Kurt Egyiawan, Freddie Fox, Clinton Liberty, Gayle Rankin and Abubakar Salim.
Newcomers to season three include James Norton as Ormund Hightower, Tommy Flanagan as Lord Roderick Dustin, Dan Fogler as Ser Torrhen Manderly, Tom Cullen as Ser Luthor Largent, Joplin Sibtain as Ser “Bold” Jon Roxton and Barry Sloane as Ser Adrian Redfort.
House of the Dragon season 3 will premiere in June.
