What We Do In the Shadows spinoff TV series secures financing

October 1, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Back in August of last year, Jemaine Clement revealed that plans were underway for both a sequel and a TV spin-off to the 2014 vampire mockumentary What We Do In the Shadows, and now it has been revealed that the small screen project has secured financing from NZ On Air.

The series, entitled Paranormal Event Response Unit, will focus on the two Wellington police officers from the movie, Karen and Mike, as they attempt to keep the city safe from all manner of mythical beasts. The series has been conceived by Clement and What We Do In the Shadows director Taika Waititi (who is currently helming Thor: Ragnarok), and will consist of six 30-minute episodes.

“Comedy is serious business and notoriously hard to get right. We are delighted that Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi are bringing their talents to smaller screens,” NZ On Air boss Jane Wrightson tells Newshub.

In addition to Paranormal Event Response Unit, Clement and Waititi are also in development on the spinoff sequel feature We’re Wolves, which follows the gang of werewolves featured in the film.
