Will Ferrell discusses the plot for the Step Brothers sequel

November 6, 2017 by Matt Rodgers

While on the promotional trail for the sequel to one of his biggest comedy hits, Daddy’s Home, Will Ferrell spoke to the New York Daily News about other follow-ups from his comedy back-catalogue, and in particular why we’ve never had a Worldwide Prestige reunion in Step Brothers 2.

It turns out that Ferrell and his long-time collaborator, Adam McKay, had an idea, but their experience with the reception of Anchorman 2 has put them off the idea of sequels. Ferrell said:-

“We talked about Step Brothers, and then Adam and I got sidetracked with other things. We had a whole story where John and I follow our parents to live in a retirement community and try to convince them that we earned the right to retire as well… The sequel thing is so funny because, we decided obviously to go down the road with Anchorman, and we made what I thought was a really great sequel, really funny. The entertainment media and fans beg you, and beg you, and beg you for sequels, and then you make it and you definitely have a fraction that’s like, ‘Well, not as good as the first one.’ So I guess it’s a catch-22. It’s a nice catch-22, because people love the movies in the first place.”

Would you like to see the further adventures of the majestic wolf lamp, or Chewbacca Pez dispenser, or should Step Brothers be left as a standalone comedy gem?
