Wonder Woman 2 and Suicide Squad 2 production start dates revealed

March 10, 2018 by Gary Collinson

With Warner Bros. and DC Films taking stock of the DC Extended Universe after the lacklustre reception to last year’s Justice League, it seems we’re now getting a good idea as to the next phase of their cinematic superhero universe.

We know that DC has Aquaman set to arrive in December, followed by Shazam – which is now in production – in April 2019 and Wonder Woman 2 in December 2019. Well, it seems that Diana’s second solo outing will then be followed by Suicide Squad 2, with Omega Underground reporting that director Gavin O’Connor will be reassembling the worst heroes ever to start shooting the sequel in the UK in October. Before then, Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot will also return to the UK to start principal photography on Wonder Woman 2 beginning May 28th 2018.

Wonder Woman 2 will see Gal Gadot joined by Kristen Wiig (Ghostbusters), who has just been announced as taking on the role of the villain Barbara Ann Minerva, a.k.a. Cheetah. If rumours are to be believed, the film will take place in the 80s with a Cold War backdrop, and could also see the return of Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor, Ewen Bremner’s Charlie and Said Taghmaoiu’s Sameer.

Details on Suicide Squad 2 are even harder to come by, but we can assume that it will see the return of the likes of Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Will Smith (Deadshot), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag) and Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), while Kinnaman has suggested that it will “be “more grounded with less sorcery”. Quite how that fits with the rumour that Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam will be the villain is anyone’s guess…
