Wonder Woman on track to break into top 10 highest grossing superhero films

June 20, 2017 by Samuel Brace

The Gal Gadot-headlined Wonder Woman is on track to become one of the top ten highest grossing superhero films of all time at the domestic box office.

The success of Wonder Woman has been well reported, with fans and audiences at last in tune with one another, and the movie bringing in the cash around the world.

According to Box Office Mojo, Wonder Woman has recently crossed $275 million in the US which currently situates it at number 17 in the list of highest grossing superhero movies.

This puts the movie about $90 million behind the film currently in possession of that tenth spot, Deadpool. And according to analysis from Caped Crusader, Wonder Woman should be on track to surpass it.

Taking into consideration Wonder Woman’s impressively small weekend to weekend drops – just 43.3% from its first weekend to its second – and the very good word of mouth the film is receiving, it should have no problem closing that gap.

Just by taking a look at Suicide Squad, which made another $60 million after this same point in its run, and the considerable difference in opinion between the two movies, Wonder Woman looks to be on track to achieve the milestone.

Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.

Wonder Woman sees Patty Jenkins (Monster) directing a cast that includes Gal Gadot (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), Chris Pine (Star Trek), Connie Nielsen (Gladiator), Robin Wright (House of Cards), Danny Huston (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), David Thewlis (The Theory of Everything), Ewen Bremner (Snowpiercer), Said Taghmaoui (American Hustle), Elena Anaya (The Skin I Live In), Lisa Loven Kongsli (Force Majeure), Lucy Davis (Shaun of the Dead) and Ann Wolf.
