Off the back of its stellar critical reception (it’s currently at a whopping 97% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes), there’s certainly a lot of excitement among fans for Wonder Woman, the first female-led superhero movie of the DCEU, and indeed the modern superhero era. And it seems that excitement could translate to a healthy opening at the box office this coming weekend.
According to Deadline, Wonder Woman remains on course for the $65 million and $75 million domestic weekend projected earlier this month, although it’s now being said that it could potentially go as high as $90 million if word of mouth matches the critical reception. Meanwhile, international tracking suggests an opening of between $92 million and $118 million from the 55 markets where the film debuts this week, although the general consensus points to around $100 million.
As well know all too well, tracking is often wide of the mark. As a recent superhero-related example, Logan was tipped to open to $170 million worldwide, and actually managed $237.8 million. So, don’t be surprised if Wonder Woman ends up north of $200 million.
UPDATE: And it seems Wonder Woman may crack the $200 million mark after all, with domestic projects raised to the $95 million mark for the weekend following the film’s stellar reviews and early word of mouth.

Wonder Woman will hit cinemas on June 1st in the UK and June 2nd in North America, with Patty Jenkins (Monster) directing a cast that includes Gal Gadot (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), Chris Pine (Star Trek), Connie Nielsen (Gladiator), Robin Wright (House of Cards), Danny Huston (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), David Thewlis (The Theory of Everything), Ewen Bremner (Snowpiercer), Said Taghmaoui (American Hustle), Elena Anaya (The Skin I Live In), Lisa Loven Kongsli (Force Majeure), Lucy Davis (Shaun of the Dead) and Ann Wolf.
