Wonder Woman projected for $83 million domestic opening, lowest of the DCEU so far

April 8, 2017 by Gary Collinson

We’re two months away from the premiere of Warner Bros. and DC Films’ latest offering Wonder Woman, and now the first early box office predictions for the Gal Gadot-headlined solo movie are in, projecting an $83 million domestic opening for the fourth instalment of the DC Extended Universe, and a total domestic haul of $225 million.

Should the prediction prove accurate, it would open with the lowest weekend of the DCEU to date behind Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice ($166 million), Suicide Squad ($133.6 million) and Man of Steel ($116.6 million).

In fairness, Wonder Woman will face some stiff competition at the box office – it opens between Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and The Mummy – and an opening north of $80 million is certainly a solid weekend. Plus, as we’ve seen on countless occasions, box office tracking is rarely accurate, with movies regularly exceeding their projections.

What are your predictions for Wonder Woman’s opening weekend? Can it top $100 million? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…

Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.

Wonder Woman will hit cinemas on June 2nd, with Patty Jenkins (Monster) directing a cast that includes Gal Gadot (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), Chris Pine (Star Trek), Connie Nielsen (Gladiator), Robin Wright (House of Cards), Danny Huston (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), David Thewlis (The Theory of Everything), Ewen Bremner (Snowpiercer), Said Taghmaoui (American Hustle), Elena Anaya (The Skin I Live In), Lisa Loven Kongsli (Force Majeure), Lucy Davis (Shaun of the Dead) and Ann Wolf.
