X-Men: The Animated Series creators hoping to pitch a revival to Disney

June 11, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Over the past few years, Disney and Marvel have done a pretty effective job of marginalising the X-Men and the Fantastic Four, with TV shows, video games and even the comic books focusing more on Marvel Studios-controlled characters as opposed to those whose big screen rights were held by 20th Century Fox.

Of course, with Disney’s takeover of Fox now complete, one would have to assume its only a matter of time before these characters return to the forefront – and it seems the creators of X-Men: The Animated Series is looking to try and capitalise on that by pitching a revival of the classic 90s cartoon to the Mouse House.

In a piece over at The Hollywood Reporter about an upcoming convention appearance with voice actors Cal Dodd (Wolverine), Lenore Zann (Rogue), George Buza (Beast), Chris Potter (Gambit) and Chris Britton (Mister Sinister), X-Men artist Larry Houston revealed that the creative team is planning to approach Disney about a potential revival, with Houston stating that: “The one thing we’d like to do more than anything else is to continue where we left off.”

X-Men: The Animated Series (or simply X-Men as it was known) premiered in 1992 and proved to be both hugely successful and influential, both in terms of serialised storytelling in animation and paving the way for Fox’s first X-Men movie. It came to an end in 1997, and was followed by two further animated X-Men series in X-Men: Evolution and Wolverine and the X-Men, the latter of which was cancelled after just one season a decade ago.

Would you like to see a revival of X-Men: The Animated Series, or would you prefer Marvel to take a fresh approach if and when the X-Men return to the world of small screen animation? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below or tweet us @FlickeringMyth…
