Young Sheldon ending its run after seven seasons

November 15, 2023 by EJ Moreno

Who knew a Big Bang Theory spin-off could be so successful? But goodness, if everyone isn’t surprised that Young Sheldon made it to Season 7.

As the comedy series, which serves as a Sheldon-focused spin-off, heads into a new season next year, it will also serve as the final season. The seventh season is set to return on February 2024.

Young Sheldon premiered in 2017 and ran with The Big Bang Theory until the original series ended in 2020. The studio behind Young Sheldon beamed with joy, diving into the series’ impact:

“As a prequel to one of the biggest comedies, Young Sheldon proved lightning can strike twice,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment. “It set itself apart with a remarkable cast that felt like a family from the first moment we saw them on screen and brought characters to life with unique, heartfelt stories that drew audiences in from the start.

“We extend a sincere thank you to executive producers Chuck Lorre, Steve Molaro, and Steve Holland and the entire writing and producing teams for six wonderful seasons. We look forward to seeing their final season unfold and giving it a proper send-off with the best episodes yet for their fans to enjoy.”

Iain Armitage stars as Sheldon, alongside Zoe Perry as Mary Cooper, Lance Barber as George Cooper Sr., Annie Potts as Connie “Meemaw” Tucker, Montana Jordan as Georgie Cooper Jr., and Raegan Revord as Missy Cooper. Jim Parsons, the original Sheldon, served as the series’ narrator.

A one-hour series finale of Young Sheldon is set to air on May 16th, 2024.
