Zack Snyder envisioned a different history for Wonder Woman in the DCEU

March 30, 2020 by EJ Moreno

It’s no secret that many believe Wonder Woman’s introduction in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is a highlight of the movie. Fans around the world went wild for the epic battle against Doomsday, something even the film’s director Zack Snyder enjoys about the film. And, during a live stream of his polarizing 2016 film, Snyder has about his original plans for how to handle Wonder Woman.

The director went on to explain that he thought the Wonder Woman film should’ve taken place in the Crimean war since it was the first time photography was used to document warfare. He also went on to expand that thought, saying he even spoke with Patty Jenkins and crew about using the American Civil War as well.

“Before we shot a scene for the movie, we shot a placeholder. We had shot it previously from the Crimean war because it was the first conflict where photography was used. We talked about using the Civil War.”

Snyder wasn’t done with his Wonder Woman discussion during the Batman v Superman live stream. When talking about the iconic DC Trinity shot from the film’s climactic battle, Snyder went on to say his placement of Diana in the center was on purpose. He wanted to show that she’s been fighting monsters for decades now and has far more experience than both Batman and Superman. In many ways, he also says this was a way for those characters to show their respect for Wonder Woman’s powers; by letting her lead, they recognize she’s the best one to lead the fight.
