Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon to push the limits of PG-13 rating

October 8, 2023 by EJ Moreno

We’ve seen Zack Snyder stretch himself within the world of PG-13 filming, but now the filmmaker is looking to test the boundaries a bit more with his upcoming space drama, Rebel Moon.

It was already revealed by filmmakers involved in the production that we’d see both a PG-13 cut and an R-rated Director’s Cut, but we got the confirmation per Film Ratings.

Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire got a PG-13 rating for: “sequences of strong violence, sexual assault, bloody images, language, sexual material, and partial nudity.”

With those descriptions, it seems like Snyder is looking to make the film a bit edger, given its streaming platform. Netflix allowed the filmmaker to get fairly violent with Army of the Dead, so we could see something along those lines, just set within a Star Wars-esque universe.

Rebel Moon‘s colossal ensemble cast includes Sofia Boutella, Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Anthony Hopkins, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Stuart Martin, Cary Elwes, Corey Stoll, Michiel Huisman, Alfonso Herrera, Ed Skrein, Cleopatra Coleman, Fra Fee, Rhian Rees, Jena Malone, E. Duffy, Charlotte Maggi, Sky Yang, and Staz Nair.

“When a peaceful colony on the edge of a galaxy finds itself threatened by the armies of a tyrannical ruling force, Kora (Sofia Boutella), a mysterious stranger living among the villagers, becomes their best hope for survival. Tasked with finding trained fighters who will unite with her in making an impossible stand against the Mother World, Kora assembles a small band of warriors — outsiders, insurgents, peasants, and orphans of war from different worlds who share a common need for redemption and revenge. As the shadow of an entire Realm bears down on the unlikeliest of moons, a battle over the fate of a galaxy is waged, and in the process, a new army of heroes is formed.”

Rebel Moon Part 1: A Child of Fire streams on Netflix from December 22nd, 2023, while Part 2: The Scargiver is released on April 19th, 2024.
