Colin Trevorrow talks Jurassic World sequel, suggests it will be heading off-island

July 29, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Last week it was announced that Universal Pictures has set a release date of June 2018 for the follow-up to this year’s blockbuster Jurassic World. Although he’s stepped down as director, Colin Trevorrow remains involved as scriptwriter along his writing partner Derek Connelly, and the filmmaker has shared a few thoughts on where the sequel could go. By the sound of it, it seems like we could be heading out of the park…

“[It will not be] just a bunch of dinosaurs chasing people on an island. That’ll get old real fast. I feel like the idea that this isn’t always going to be limited to theme parks, and there are applications for this science that reach far beyond entertainment. Dr Wu says in the film, when he’s warning Dr Mesrani, ‘We’re not always going to be the only ones who can make a dinosaur.’ I think that’s an interesting idea that even if we don’t explore fully in this film, there is room for this universe to expand.”

The currently untitled Jurassic World sequel will open in cinemas on June 22nd, 2018, with Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard both returning.
