Comic Book Review – Penguins of Madagascar #2.3

May 16, 2016 by Emma Withington

Emma Withington reviews Penguins of Madagascar #2.3…

The North Wind (the super-spy animal organization) have gone missing and it’s up to the Penguins to find them. But will their search bring danger into the Penguins’ lives?

In the penultimate issue of this four part miniseries, the Penguins: The Elite-est of the Elite saga continues. The Penguins are battling it out for the ‘Elite Undercover Interspecies Elite-est of the Elite award’ against the North Wind – oh, and Kevin-X Action Lemming Extraordinaire…yes, you did read that correctly and no, you are perfectly sane.

Coming up against cyber crocs (not the shoes) and mech suits, the Penguins flap their way through Egyptian tombs and the Pyramid of Terror, in a team based survival of the fittest; all for one shiny gong!? ‘Stay alert boys! That ridiculously shiny gong is as good as ours!’ –  Skipper.

The moral of this week’s story is: never underestimate a lemming, or let them near any big red buttons – hell, don’t even give them a job interview to become an agent…

In what continues to be a snappy script from Cavan Scott, the puns are on the rise. No matter the impending threat of losing appendages to cyber crocs – the wit of the Penguins never falters and they deem it the perfect time to improve Classified’s one liners. You can’t use a laser pen without the correct phrasing, no sir.

Penguins of Madagascar #2.3 includes three short bonus stories: The Baby Penguins of Madagascar: The Frozen Terror Part 1, The North Wind Broken: Part 3, and Present-Danger. There is also a variant cover that follows the trend of parodying Marvel’s Civil War.

Penguins of Madagascar #2.3 is a non-stop action packed issue full of twists and turns to keep you entertained and suitably satisfied; in Saturday morning cartoon style, bite-sized chunks.

Rating: 7/10
