Comic Book Review – Uncle Scrooge #14

May 9, 2016 by Andrew Newton

Andrew Newton reviews Uncle Scrooge #14…

“Scrooge’s Last Adventure,” Part 2 of 4! Is Magica De Spell a bad witch or a good witch? The Sorceress’ Society has forced her to reform—right when Scrooge needs her magic at its blackest!

Issue #14 of Uncle Scrooge is here and we continue with part two of the four-part storyline ‘Scrooge’s Last Adventure’.  In last issue, John D. Rockerduck, Flintheart Glomgold, Magica De Spell and the Beagle Boys had joined forces to steal Scrooge’s fortune and make themselves the richest and most powerful figures in the whole of Duckberg.  This issue finds Scrooge wallowing in self pity at Donald’s house as he tries to come to terms with bankruptcy until Donald’s house is repossessed and given to the Beagle Boys.  With the help of the Duck Avenger will Scrooge begin to fight back or will things get worse for our most lovable of misers?

This storyline was first printed in Italy’s Topolino comic in 2013 and is a most excellent little adventure for Scrooge and his nephews.  Writer, Francesco Artibani has done a great job of creating such a captivating storyline.

The second story in this issue was first printed in 1970 in Brazilian O Pato Donald issue 986.  Titled, ‘For Whom Belle Toils’, this short one part story sees Scrooge’s old beau, Belle, pay a visit and offer Scrooge the use of her boat the SS Gilded Lily for the day while she looks after his office and financial affairs.

Uncle Scrooge #14 is a great read; its main story is exciting and although not filled with the adventuring that Scrooge stories normally contain it is nonetheless a gripping tale.  This is certainly a good read for children and a great read for those of us who are young at heart.

Rating: 8/10
