Comic Book Review – Dirk Gently: The Salmon of Doubt #3

December 7, 2016 by Villordsutch

Villordsutch reviews Dirk Gently: The Salmon of Doubt #3…

Plagued by nightmares about a childhood he never had, Dirk Gently discovers that a holistic detective can have more than one past, and his adventures have only just begun…

The universe of Dirk Gently is anything but boring, as has been proven over the previous two comics in this ‘The Salmon of Doubt’ series from Arvind Ethan David, and now arriving at Issue #3 we begin to wonder where the strands – that are being handed to us – are leading.  Will this world of Interconnectedness slowly be coming together or is Mr. David planning on dazzling us with even more happenings that appear – on the surface – to be unrelated?

At the end of the last issue we left Dirk stood at the front of a stage in shock as an unknown female, who as the story unfolds we now know as Amanda Brontzman, was engulfed in flames.  However, it appears that only Dirk himself could see the flames – well, Dirk and her Brother Todd – as both brother and sister suffer from a disease called Pararibulitis*

As Dirk attempts to find out more information on Amanda he witnesses a military man called “Riggins” who has been occupying the dreams of Dirk (that don’t actually belong to him), who also appears to be investigating the recent “supposed” girl on fire in the ‘Fenchurch’ nightclub.

Meanwhile, Sally has once again awoken surrounded by TV sets and has discovered her actions with the young Dirk (see the last issue) will have a reaction in his later life.

I think learning to expect the unexpected would do us all well when it comes to Dirk Gently: The Salmon of Doubt.  Do not think for any reason  2+2=4 in this universe, when so many stories are flowing towards the same estuary. We are still being introduced to new and colourful threads for the final tapestry that it will probably make Bishop Odo’s Bayeux effort look timid by comparison.

Another excellent issue, though I want to know more about the world Sally keeps finding herself in, and also what is this fantasy world Bernice the Cat has become cornered within; though I suspect these answers will come soon enough.
