Comic Book Review – Star Trek/Green Lantern: Stranger Worlds #2

January 25, 2017 by Villordsutch

Villordsutch reviews Star Trek/Green Lantern: Stranger Worlds #2…

STRANGER WORLDS PART TWO! With their power rings running low and no power batteries left to recharge them, the surviving heroes of the Lantern Corps join with Starfleet in the ultimate battle with Sinestro and the resurgent Klingons… until the arrival of an unexpected visitor from the Lanterns’ past changes the game entirely!

SEE ALSO: Check out a preview of Star Trek/Green Lantern: Stranger Worlds #2 here

Stranger Worlds #2 drops us straight into the firefight in which we left Kirk, the Away Team and Hal Jordan up against numerous Klingons, Sinestro and a brilliant yellow Bat’leth for the spoils of the battle – a centuries old Manhunter, and the proof that the Guardians of the Universe exist.  With the power of the rings failing however it’s up to fate to decide who will claim this ancient prize.

Rapidly and with centuries of tactical experience behind them, both Sinestro and his Klingon Warriors easily seize the Manhunter, though not without Hal Jordan making one last dash to stop this link to the power of the rings getting away.  However, severely draining his own green ring in the process Hal loses all power and begins to tumble in open space; seconds later the Enterprise snatches him before death does.

Back on Earth, the other three green ring bearers – Guy Gardner, Stewart and Kilowog – are being shown top secret footage of Atrocitus (a red ring bearer) in search of rage and finds it deep within a Federation “Remote and Secure” Asteroid Station.  With this the three ring bearers are sent to deal with this rage-filled ring bearer.

With the news of Atrocitus and Kirk not wanting to enter Klingon space to tackle Sinestro and retrieve the Manhunter, they set course to meet up with Guy Gardner and the other green ring bearers; however their course is brought to a sudden halt when multiple targets drag the Enterprise out of warp. On the Asteroid Station the three green ring bearers discover what was so filled with rage – within the asteroid – that it attracted the attention of Atrocitus.

I’ve seen the closing page! I’ve said a very bad word – in shock – at the closing page! Mike Johnson made me place money in the swear jar due to the closing page!  Holy heck! Closing this comic I could hear Nat King Cole singing his famous song, whilst smirking.  I know I’ve discussed the final page a lot here, but you’ll understand.

“The rest of the comic?” you ask.  Well yeah that’s okay I suppose…I kid!  As with last month, Stranger Worlds is far more Green Lantern heavy than Star Trek in my humble Trek Nerd opinion, however this shouldn’t scare anyone off.  I’m learning here, the story is engaging, the pieces are being placed upon the board and it is clear that Stranger Worlds is slowly building up to something wonderful.  Mike Johnson knows his salt and he’s balancing two worlds very well in one comic.

As ever the art and colours from Angel Hernandez and Alejandro Sanchez are brilliant, and I can’t fault these two artists.  I look forward to seeing what these two talented people deliver and they monthly bring something fantastic.  Extra points have to go for Angel Hernandez’s ”Editors Edition Cover”…

Star Trek / Green Lantern: Stranger Worlds #2 will make you so excited for Issue #3!  When it ends you’ll possibly smile, or – like me – say a tiny swear word and wish you had Issue #3 ready to read.

Rating:- 8/10
