Ghostbusters animated movie in development at Sony

October 2, 2015 by Justin Cook

Having confirmed their plans to build a Ghostbusters expanded universe in the past, Sony Pictures Animation is now reportedly developing an animated Ghostbusters movie.

The film’s plot is largely unknown at the time, but The Tracking Board says the film will, much like 1984’s Ghostbusters and Paul Feig’s upcoming Ghostbusters, follow a group of scientists who “team up to fight off ghosts, using gadgets and gizmos to capture the menacing ghouls.” However, The Wrap added that there’s a chance the story will be “told from a ghost’s point of view.” The site also stated that the film may take place in a borough of New York City other than Manhattan.

The director of the original Ghostbusters, Ivan Reitman, will produce the project along with Tom Pollock for Ghost Corps.

Currently, two other Ghostbusters movies are in different stages of production at Sony as well. Feig’s all-female Ghostbusters starring Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones wrapped filming last month, and is set for release on July 15, 2016. Additionally, Channing Tatum may star in a separate Ghostbusters film, which will be written by Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3); the Russo brothers (Captain America: Civil War) are on board the project as well.

In case you forgot, the Ghostbusters have popped up in animated form before, including on the long-running ABC TV series The Real Ghostbusters, which ran from 1986 to 1991.
