Jon Favreau to executive produce Avengers: Infinity War films

April 18, 2016 by Justin Cook

After helming two out of three of the first installments in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Iron Man and Iron Man 2, director Jon Favreau decided to take a lesser role on future projects, serving as an executive producer on The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Iron Man 3, the latter of which he also returned on-screen as Tony Stark’s bodyguard, Happy Hogan. His name previously wasn’t attached to any of Marvel’s Phase Three offerings, which lead some to believe that he was done working with Marvel, but during a recent interview, Favreau confirmed that that’s not the case.

“I’m going to be executive producing the Avengers films with the Russo brothers, which I’m very excited about,” Favreau said to Digital Spy while promoting his newest directorial effort, The Jungle Book. “I talk to them about it all the time. I’ve worked both in front of and behind the camera with Marvel and I really love what they’re doing now.”

Of course, when Favreau says “Avengers films” he is talking about Anthony and Joe Russo’s Avengers: Infinity War – Part I and Avengers: Infinity War – Part II, which are due out in 2018 and 2019, respectively.

He later said that he’s seen a rough cut of this May’s Captain America: Civil War and that “it’s fantastic.” It sounds like Favreau loves working with Marvel, as he also added that they’re “constantly looking for things to do together.”

This week, Favreau will certainly be celebrating the success of The Jungle Book, which was met with overwhelmingly positive reception from critics and a huge opening weekend at the box office. As of now, he and writer Justin Marks are in negotiations to return to their roles for the film’s recently announced sequel.
