Ben Affleck will executive produce Justice League

May 6, 2016 by James Garcia

Whether or not those rumoured “fights” behind the scenes of Justice League led to this or not is unclear, but this just in: Ben Affleck has been elevated to an executive producer role on the upcoming DC Extended Universe team-up film.

The news comes from Deadline, who state that Affleck will work “with director Zack Snyder and screenwriter Chris Terrio behind the scenes to make the film the best it can be.” Deadline’s sources say that Affleck is doing this “to be supportive of Snyder,” and will help Warner Bros. figure out “its stylistic superhero mojo.”

After the near-universal scathing reviews that Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice received in March, which in turn stunted the film’s true box office potential (though, to be fair, over $864 million is nothing to shake a Kryptonite spear at), bringing someone else in to help Snyder take the reins of Justice League was inevitable. Having someone of Affleck’s talents (who is also invested in the film doing well, considering he’s Batman and all) is a very smart move, especially since he’ll be taking the helm of his own solo Batman film and thus controlling part of where the DCEU goes from here.

Justice League will hit theaters on November 17, 2017. The film reunites Affleck with Henry Cavill’s Superman Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, and Jeremy Irons’ Alfred. They’ll be joined by fellow Justice Leaguers Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Ray Fisher (Cyborg), Ezra Miller (The Flash) and Amber Heard (Mera).
