UPDATE: Disney are very unhappy with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story; expensive reshoots ordered

May 31, 2016 by admin

Time to get your pinch of salt at the ready.

Page Six is reporting that Disney are very unhappy with the first cut of Gareth Edward’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and have gone into crisis mode ahead of its December 16th release.

“One Hollywood source told us, ‘The execs at Disney are not happy with the movie, and Rogue One will have to go back into four weeks of expensive reshoots in July,'” the website claims.

They also go onto say that their sources have told them the film simply isn’t up to the standards set by J.J. Abrams and Star Wars: The Force Awakens, noting that Edwards can clearly handle a big studio movie as demonstrated by 2014’s Godzilla.

“The filmmaking team and the studio always anticipated additional shooting and second unit work to make the film the absolute best it can be, and the actors were aware there would be additional shooting,” a ‘Disney Source’ claims. “Coming off ‘The Force Awakens,’ there’s an incredibly high bar for this movie and we have a responsibility to the franchise and to the fans to deliver the best possible movie we can.”

As ever, this is just a rumour so take it with a pinch of salt. There have been a lot of rumours surrounding reshoots and unhappy studios – Warner Bros with Suicide Squad and Justice League and Sony with Ghostbusters to name a few – so we’ll see what happens come December…

UPDATE: Deadline is corroborating the report, stating that “the first cut was lacking the edge that Force Awakens had, and the story needs to jell”

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is set for release on December 16th 2016, with a cast that includes Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything), Diego Luna (Milk), Ben Mendelsohn (The Dark Knight Rises), Donnie Yen (Ip Man), Jiang Wen (Let the Bullets Fly), Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland), Alan Tudyk (Con Man) and Riz Ahmed (Nightcrawler).
