Stephen Amell wants to go back to “the core elements” of Arrow for season 5

May 26, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Following last night’s season four finale of Arrow [read our review here], star Stephen Amell has been chatting to Entertainment Weekly about the future of the DC series, stating that he’d like to see the fifth season going back-to-basics to focus on “the core elements” that defined the show prior to The CW’s superhero expansion.

“When we started Arrow, we were the superpower-less superhero show,” states Amell. “Because of our success and because of opportunities that The CWhas had, we’ve had to break away from that original modus operandi a little bit, because we were introducing Barry Allen, and in subsequent seasons, we’ve shepherded some of the Legends of Tomorrow onto their own show. Even though Supergirl is joining the ranks, there’s no new person or new show to introduce this year, and I think as a result of that, we need to get back to focusing more on some of the core elements that used to define Arrow. To me, that’s hand-to-hand combat, no superpowers, and dealing with the job of cleaning up Star City.”

Do you agree with Amell? Has Arrow strayed to far from its original formula? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…

Arrow will return for its fifth season in the Fall, along with fellow Arrowverse shows The Flash and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, and new addition Supergirl.
