Chris Hemsworth talks Thor: Ragnarok tone, Tom Hiddleston teases rematch between Loki and The Hulk

June 5, 2016 by Gary Collinson

As Thor: Ragnarok gears up to go into production next month, both Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Tom Hiddleston (Loki) have been discussing their upcoming return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Hemsworth discussing the film’s tone and Hiddleston teasing a rematch between the God of Mischief and The Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) following their first encounter in 2012’s The Avengers.

“I think tonally it’s a big shift in a great way, more than anything we’ve seen before,” said Hemsworth during a Q&A at Wizard World Philadelphia. “Taika Waititi, the director, if you know any of his work, yeah, he’s just an incredible sort of comedic talent, a lot of heart in everything he does, but you know, it’s a very different Thor, it’s a different Loki, we go off on another world that we haven’t experienced before. It’s fun you know, but that’s me skirting around the issue because I can’t say too much.”

“I really haven’t played [Loki] properly since the end of 2012,” added Hiddleston. “I know Thor: The Dark World came out in 2013, but the last time I put the suit on was in 2012 if you exclude San Diego Comic Con. What I’m interested in really is how his attitudes have changed, while Thor was away with his buddies fighting a computer… The most exciting thing about him is that he is always a trickster. It is trying to find new ways for him to be mischievous, because I love doing that, and I hope you guys love that. And lets not forget that its no secret that the Hulk shows up in Ragnarok, and the last time Loki and Hulk were in the same room didn’t go very well for Loki so he’s got a few chips on his shoulder. It’s fun, you’ll see.”

Thor: Ragnarok is being directed by Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows) and will star Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Idris Elba as Heimdall, Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, Cate Blanchett as Hela, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster and Karl Urban as Skurge. It is set for release on November 3rd, 2017.
