Supergirl casts Tyler Hoechlin as Superman

June 16, 2016 by Ricky Church

On the heels of last week’s announcement that Superman himself will appear in Supergirl’s second season, we now have confirmation of who will play the Man of Steel for the series: Tyler Hoechlin has been cast. Hoechlin is a veteran of The CW after starring in Teen Wolf and has more recently appeared in Fifty Shades of Grey and Everybody Wants Some.

Andrew Kreisberg, Supergirl’s executive producer, said “Greg Berlanti and I have wanted to work with Tyler for ages, so this worked out perfectly because Tyler is Superman. We are so thrilled and humbled to add another amazing actor to the legacy of this iconic character.”

This news comes as a bit of a surprise as rumours previously stated Kreisberg and Berlanti were looking for an unknown actor to play Superman, not to mention a lot of fan support to see Smallville’s Tom Welling return to don the cape. Though Superman will guest star in the first two episode of Season 2 he’s technically appeared a few times in the show already, either seen from a distance or chatting with Kara through an online service.

Supergirl moves to The CW in the fall and joins Arrow, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow in a shared television universe.
