Rumour: Kyle Chandler being eyed to play Cable in Deadpool 2

August 13, 2016 by Justin Cook

Ever since Deadpool shared the news at the end of his debut superhero outing that the film’s sequel would feature the supervillain Cable, speculation has been rampant on which actor will play the telepathic mutant. Although such actors as Stephen Lang and Ron Perlman have thrown their hats in the ring and done a bit of campaigning for the part, today, thanks to Jeff Sneider we have our first legitimate candidate for the role.

While speaking to Forbes writer Simon Thompson on Popcorn Talk’s Meet the Movie Press, Sneider revealed that Friday Night Lights and Super 8 actor Kyle Chandler was being eyed for the role of Cable in Deadpool 2. Sneider made it clear to those listening to take the report with a grain of salt, as it certainly hasn’t been confirmed by the studio, but he did mention that the actor’s name has been floating around for months.

Additionally, Sneider dropped the name of another possible cast addition shortly after, claiming that Halt and Catch Fire and Blade Runner 2 actress Mackenzie Davis may end up playing Domino, a superhero with expert marksman skills. He described her as being the “scene stealer of the movie” and said that Davis was in the mix to play the female lead in Disney’s Han Solo standalone movie before the decision was made to seek out a non-white actress for the role.

Sneider announces the news around the 52-minute mark in the Meet the Movie Press episode below…

Chandler’s other major credits include Bloodline, Argo, Zero Dark Thirty and The Wolf of Wall Street, while Davis’ include That Awkward Moment and The Martian.

Ryan Reynolds will return as the Merc with a Mouth in Deadpool 2, which, as of now, doesn’t have a specific release date but is expected to hit theaters in 2018; filming will begin early next year.
