Paul Feig doesn’t think a Ghostbusters sequel is being discussed by Sony

October 14, 2016 by admin

It had been reported back in August that Sony weren’t looking to push forward with a sequel to Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters reboot, instead putting focus on a new animated movie and the cartoon series Ghostbusters: Ecto Force, which will debut in 2018. In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, Feig has admitted that he’s not heard anything from the studio about a potential sequel.

“Nothing that I am aware of,” he said. “You know, I think everybody is going to wait and see how the DVD sells and how our digital sales are. It’s expensive to make these movies and the people who paid for it, the studio, they’ve got to be the ones who want to make it and so far, no word. But I’m very proud of this film and if this is the only one I get to do and the only one with this team, I’d be very, very proud of it. And if they want to do another one or do more of them, I think that’d be really fun too.”

The DVD, which has re-titled the movie Ghostbusters: Answer The Call, is out now in the United States. Sony had previously said there was “no doubt” a sequel could be made, but a disappointing $228 million worldwide (the film needed $300 just to break-even) put all plans on ice for the time being.

Ghostbusters: Answer The Call sees Paul Feig (Spy) directing a cast that includes Kristin Wiig (Bridesmaids), Melissa McCarthy (Spy), Leslie Jones (Saturday Night Live), Kate McKinnon (Saturday Night Live), Chris Hemsworth (Avengers: Age of Ultron), Andy Garcia (The Godfather: Part III), Michael K. Williams (Boardwalk Empire), Matt Walsh (Veep), Cecily Strong (Saturday Night Live), Neil Casey (Saturday Night Live) and Charles Dance (Game of Thrones). Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver and Annie Potts all cameo.
