Tessa Thompson, Zoe Kravitz and Naomi Scott test for female lead in the Han Solo Star Wars movie

October 5, 2016 by Gary Collinson

With Alden Ehrenreich locked in for the title role, it looks like we can expect some imminent casting news on Lucasfilm’s Han Solo prequel, with Variety reporting that testing has been taking place this week in London for two key roles in the Star Wars spinoff.

According to the site, Tessa Thompson (Creed), Zoe Kravitz (X-Men: First Class) and Naomi Scott (Power Rangers) have been testing for the mystery female lead, along with a second round of testing for the part of the young Lando Calrissian. Previous reports had suggested that Donald Glover was in line to step into the shoes of Billy Dee Williams, but apparently Disney and Lucasfilm wanted further tests in order to be certain of their decision.

Filming on the Han Solo movie is set to get underway early in 2017, with Phil Lord and Chris Miller (The LEGO Movie) directing from a script by Lawrence Kasdan (The Empire Strikes Back,Return of the Jedi, The Force Awakens) and his son Jon. Cinematographer Bradford Young (Arrival) is also on board to shoot the film, which is set for release on May 25th 2018.
