The CW rebooting US soap Dynasty

October 1, 2016 by Gary Collinson

The CW is set to reboot the classic 80s U.S. soap opera Dynasty, tapping Josh Schwartz (The O.C.), Stephanie Savage (Gossip Girl) and Sallie Patrick (Revenge) to write and executive produce a new series, which also has original creators Richard and Esther Shapiro on board as executive producers.

Variety reports that the new series “will be told primarily through the perspectives of two female characters locked in conflict — Fallon Carrington, daughter of billionaire Blake Carrington, and her soon-to-be stepmother, Cristal, a Hispanic woman marrying into this WASP family and America’s most powerful class.”

ABC’s competitor to CBS’ Dallas, Dynasty premiered on ABC in 1981 and ran for 220 episodes across nine seasons, with a two-part miniseries Dynasty: The Reunion also airing in 1991. It received the Golden Globe Award for Best TV Drama Series in 1984, while stars John Forsythe, Joan Collins and Linda Evans were also awarded Golden Globes for their work on the show.
