Vikings star Katheryn Winnick interested in playing Black Canary

December 1, 2016 by James Garcia

Vikings actress Katheryn Winnick has long been on fan wishlists to star in a comic book film. Many campaigned for her to take the title role in Captain Marvel, but that film ended up finding its star in Brie Larson. Now, fans have turned their attention instead to the other big superhero franchise in town, the DC Extended Universe. Namely, for the role of Black Canary.

On Wednesday, Winnick held a Q&A on her Twitter page, and was quickly asked whether or not she’d be interested in the role of DC’s fishnet-wearing superheroine should Warner Brothers ever make a Green Arrow film. Her answer? An unequivocal “Hell ya.”

As of right now, there appear to be no current plans for a Green Arrow movie, but Black Canary could show up in another DC title – like Margo Robbie’s Harley Quinn film, which just found a writer in Shut In and Unforgettable scribe Christina Hodson.

That film, which Robbie will also produce – is rumored to be more Birds of Prey than Harley Quinn spinoff, which leaves the door open for a character like Black Canary to appear. Though the roster has changed through the years, the all-female superheroine team often revolves around the trio of Oracle, Huntress, and Black Canary.

With that project on the horizon, and Winnick interested in the role, perhaps this bit of fan casting has a chance at becoming a reality.
