Speaking to Empire, Anchorman director Adam McKay (Step Brothers, The Other Guys) has resolutely confirmed there will not be another sequel to the Ron Burgundy-starring movies. Read what he had to say below:
No, that’s the last sequel we’re gonna do. There’s nothing more fun to me than new characters and a new world. And now we’re releasing this alt version, we’re totally satisfied. No Anchorman 3… I’m going to say definitely no. I’ll actually say it in this case!
That’s not a ‘never say never,’ it’s a ‘no-way, Jose’ – not only denying Anchorman sequels, but all others too. If a Step Brothers 2 is ever going to happen, it’ll have to be under a different director.
But, in a semantic piece of logic dodging, the alternative cut of Anchorman 2 is out in cinemas in the US and UK from today, with 763 new jokes and the same cast as the first release. That includes Will Ferrell, Christina Applegate, Steve Carrell, Paul Rudd, David Koechner, Fred Willard, Chris Parnell, Vince Vaughn, Harrison Ford, Kristen Wiig, Dylan Baker, Greg Kinnear, James Marsden and Meagan Good.
