Jamie Foxx to star as Mike Tyson in upcoming biopic

July 31, 2014 by Scott J. Davis

Having won an Oscar in 2005 for his portrayal of Ray Charles in the superb biopic Ray, Jamie Foxx has set his sights on his next acting challenge as boxer Mike Tyson.

The Wolf of Wall Street and The Sopranos writer Terence Winter and Foxx’s own manager Rick Yorn are supposedly working on the project together, with a view to have Foxx star as the controversial sportsman.

No distributor or studio are involved with the project just yet, however it would seem very likely that the film will get the go-ahead, given Tyson’s whirlwind of a career that includes six years of prison for rape, bankruptcy, drug and drink offences, as well as the infamous incident in 1997 when in a rematch with fellow boxer Evander Holyfield, Tyson big off a chunk of Holyfield’s ear. Should make for a hell of a film.

What are your thoughts on a new Tyson biopic? Is Foxx the right man to star? Leave your comments below as ever and give us your thoughts…
