Mark Hamill will voice The Joker for Batman: The Killing Joke film

July 28, 2015 by Justin Cook

When an animated film based on 1988’s graphic novel Batman: The Killing Joke was announced at Comic-Con this year, the majority of fans instantly decided that they wanted to see Mark Hamill (Star Wars) voice The Joker in the film. Even Mark Hamill himself kept his “fingers crossed” for the role.

According to Collider, Hamill has not only been officially cast as the film’s Joker, but he has already recorded all of his voice acting as well.

While Luke Skywalker may always be Hamill’s most iconic role, The Joker is a not-too-distant second. He has voiced the character for numerous Batman-related projects over the years, including the incredibly popular Batman: Arkham video game trilogy (Batman: Arkham Asylum, Batman: Arkham City and Batman: Arkham Knight), Batman: Mask of the Phantasm and Batman: The Animated Series. In fact, the actor has been playing the character since 1993.

A few years ago, Hamill said he would soon stop voicing the iconic Batman villain, but it looks like he’s not quite ready to say goodbye just yet.

The graphic novel, which is a work of Alan Moore and Brian Bolland, tells The Joker’s origin story. It is both one of the more controversial and influential Batman stories ever told.

Batman: The Killing Joke will be released direct-to-video in 2016.
