With the San Diego Comic-Con fast approaching, it’s only natural for rumours to start popping up suggesting what big announcements could be in store from the studios and networks at the pop culture event. Well, here’s a rather huge one concerning The CW’s Arrowverse, which comes by way of Bleeding Cool, who have a decent(ish) track record when it comes to DC’s small screen projects.
According to the site, The CW’s new acquisition Supergirl is set to see the addition of Kate Kane / Batwoman and Barbara Gordon / Oracle, and their will be modeled after Chuck Dixon’s Birds of Prey, albeit with Batwoman instead of Black Canary. Supergirl has recently cast the character of Maggie Sawyer, who has been in a relationship with Batwoman in the comic books, so it would not be too surprising if Kate Kane soon followed.
Batwoman and Oracle may not be the only Bat-family characters to join the show however, as The CW is apparently keen on bringing the man himself, Batman, into the fold. The network has reportedly approached Fox (who hold the TV rights to The Dark Knight through Gotham), but it’s claimed that the deal would only be financially feasible if Batman was made a series regular across all of the Arrowverse shows due to the cost of licensing the character.
And speaking of characters appearing across Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, apparently both John Wesley Shipp (Jay Garrick) and Matt Ryan (John Constantine) are being eyed for similar deals to those signed by Wentworth Miller (Captain Cold) and John Barrowman (Malcolm Merlyn). Furthermore, The CW is said to be considering a new Constantine-led series for its Friday night slot once The Vampire Diaries comes to an end after this next season.
These are certainly juicy rumours, and with Superman already confirmed for Supergirl, should they prove true and The CW does manage to reach a deal for Batman, everything would be in place for a fully-fledged DC universe on the network. Hell, we might even finally get to see Green Lantern.
