The Guardians of the Galaxy will be integral to Avengers: Infinity War, says James Gunn

March 16, 2017 by Robert Kojder

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn recently participated in an interview with Complex to promote The Belko Experiment (a horror film he wrote that releases in theaters this Friday), and naturally was asked about the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Speaking on how the titular Guardians would factor into the hugely anticipated Avengers: Infinity War, Gunn said: “You know listen, I don’t think we should overstate things that it is an Avengers movie, but the Guardians are a part of the cosmic universe, they’re a part of Thanos’ stories, so, they are in there, and they have, not the biggest, but, an integral part to that.”

The next step for James Gunn’s galactic saviors is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which is set for release in less than two months. Meanwhile, Avengers: Infinity War is currently in production ahead of a release on May 2nd 2018, followed by the as-yet-untitled Avengers 4 on May 3rd 2019.

Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.
