SPOILERS: And the post-credit scenes in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 are…

April 25, 2017 by admin

WARNING: OBVIOUS SPOILERS AHEAD INCLUDING PLOT POINTS FROM THE MOVIE…

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits cinemas this coming weekend, but Flickering Myth were lucky enough to see it in person last night in London’s Hammersmith Apollo. Unlike most screenings, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was set up like an actual gig, promoting it as a ‘one night only’ event with merchandise tables and a live DJ encouraging people to dance to the tunes from both films. It was different, I’ll give it that.

But you’re not here for that, you’re here for the FIVE post-credit stingers. Interestingly, only one of them teased an upcoming film; the already announced Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

POST-CREDIT 1

Following the death of his beloved Captain, Kraglin (Sean Gunn) has adopted Yondu’s fin and arrow. This quick scene shows him trying to get to grips with it – badly, leading to him stabbing Drax in the chest…

POST-CREDIT 2

After attending Yondu’s funeral, Stakar (Sylvester Stallone) is re-uinted with his fellow Ravenger friends including Charlie-27 (Ving Rhames), Altea (Michelle Yeoh), Krugar and Mainframe. This is a sort-of recreation of the original Guardians of the Galaxy from the comics (minus Yondu, of course), and Stakar suggests they go and, “steal some shit”.

POST-CREDIT 3

This is a key one, as it will play into Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Upset in her defeat and awaiting to face the council, Ayesha of the Sovereign tells her aide that she has built a new birthing chamber that will create a being that can defeat the Guardians of the Galaxy. She has decided to call him Adam – telling us that Adam Warlock will indeed be the villain in the next film.

POST-CREDIT 4

Baby Groot has now grown up – only he’s Teen Groot. In this scene, Groot is sitting on the edge of his bed playing on an electronic device. Peter Quill comes and plays the angry parent, complaining that he’s rotting his brain playing video games and he needs to tidy his room. Teen Groot responds with mumbles.

POST-CREDIT 5

The fifth, and final, post-credit is a call-back to the Stan Lee cameo from earlier in the movie, where he is chatting with Uatu. He is still with his Watcher friends, but they appear to have grown bored with his stories and begin to walk away. Lee, disappointed, says that they were supposed to be his ride home and he’s now stuck there.

So, as we said, there isn’t anything too major in there apart from set-ups for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Nothing for Thor: Ragnarok (although Grandmaster does make a brief cameo in the credits themselves dancing) and zero hints of the team’s arrival on Earth for Avengers: Infinity War. Still, the Teen Groot scene was very funny!

Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is scheduled for release on April 28th 2017 in the UK and on May 5th in the States, with director James Gunn reuniting with returning cast members Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), Vin Diesel (Groot), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Michael Rooker (Yondu), Glenn Close (Nova Prime), Sean Gunn (Kraglin) and Laura Haddock (Meredith Quill) alongside new additions Pom Klementieff (Oldboy) as Mantis, Elizabeth Debicki (The Man from U.N.C.L.E.) as Ayesha, Kurt Russell (The Hateful Eight) as Ego the Living Planet, Chris Sullivan (The Drop) as Taserface, Tommy Flanagan (Sons of Anarchy) as Tulik, Sylvester Stallone (Creed) as Stakar and Michael Rosenbaum (Smallville) in an as-yet-unrevealed role.
