Warner Bros. reportedly developing R-rated Watchmen animated movie

April 14, 2017 by Gary Collinson

It looks like Warner Bros. could be set to revisit Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ Watchmen, with FilmBuffOnline reporting that an R-Rated animated adaptation of the superhero epic is in development, which will present “a faithful adaptation of the Watchmen graphic novel executed in an animation style that mirrors the source material.”

The site posted the following, which is apparently from an online marketing survey from Warner Bros.:

The survey also allegedly asks respondents to comment on their awareness of a number of other properties, including Swamp Thing, Batman: The Long Halloween, Gotham Academy, Superman: Red Sun, Injustice, Fables, Lucifer, iZombie, Hellblazer, Preacher, Sandman, Scooby Apocalypse and the Archie Comics series Afterlife with Archie.

If genuine, this isn’t the first time that Warner Bros. has shown an interest in returning to the world of Watchmen, with a report from 2015 revealing that Zack Snyder had been having discussions with HBO about a potential TV series, although as yet that has failed to materialise.

Are you excited about the prospect of an R-rated Watchmen animated movie? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…
