Having initially signed a six-film deal with Marvel Studios to portray Captain America, Chris Evans will take his tally up to seven with 2019’s as-yet-untitled Avengers: Infinity War follow-up Avengers 4, and speaking to The Telegraph the actor has revealed why he agreed to extend his stay in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“I had six films in my Marvel contract, so I could have said after the third Avengers I was done, but they wanted to make the third and fourth Avengers films as a two-parter,” said Evans. “They said they had so many other characters to fit in – Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, Ant Man – and couldn’t get them all into one movie… It made sense. It’s going to wrap everything up.”
Evans has previously played coy with his future beyond Avengers 4, stating at various times that he’s both ready to call it a day and open to extending his contract even further. Of course, that could all be academic should – as many people expect – Marvel decides to go down the Death of Captain America route in the upcoming Avengers movies…
