George R.R. Martin’s Nightflyers ordered to pilot by Syfy

June 24, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Back in May it was announced that Syfy had picked up the rights to A Song of Ice and Fire creator George R.R. Martin’s 1980 novella Nightflyers for a TV adaptation, and now comes word from Variety that the project has officially been ordered to pilot.

“We are looking forward to diving deeper into George R.R. Martin’s chilling world of Nightflyers,” said Bill McGoldrick, executive vice president of scripted development for NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment. “The script that Jeff Buhler delivered encapsulates this classic sci-fi horror story and adapts it to a platform where we can truly explore the depths of madness.”

Nightflyers followers a crew of explorers who embark on an expedition to intercept a mysterious alien spacecraft; however, as they travel to their destination, they discover that the ship’s artificial intelligence and reclusive may be steering them into deadly and unspeakable horrors deep in the dark reaches of space.

The novella was previously adapted for the big screen in 1987.
