Spider-Man: Homecoming tracking $100 million domestic opening weekend, first track from Michael Giacchino’s score released

June 16, 2017 by Gary Collinson

With exactly three weeks to go until Spider-Man: Homecoming swings into U.S. theaters, the official tracking numbers for the Marvel and Sony-produced reboot are in, and according to box office analysts the wall-crawler is looking at a domestic opening weekend of between $90 million to $108 million.

That’s down quite considerably from the $135 million projection from mid-May, and puts it in the same region as Warner Bros.’ Wonder Woman, which opened with $100.5 million at the start of this month. It would however be an improvement over Sony’s two Amazing Spider-Man reboots, which opened with $62 million and $91.6 million respectively.

Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2 – widely considered to be the best Spidey movie to date – opened with $88 million back in 2004, although the original enjoyed a $114.8 million opening weekend in 2002, while Spider-Man 3 set a record for the franchise with $151.1 million.

Should Homecoming come in on the low-end of the tracking, it could well provide Robert Downey Jr. with his lowest MCU opening to date – a record currently held by the original Iron Man on $98.6 million.

Meanwhile, in other Spider-Man: Homecoming news, Sony has unveiled the first track from Michael Giacchino’s score for the movie, entitled ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming Suite’. Have a listen here…

A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.

Spider-Man: Homecoming sees Tom Holland and Marisa Tomei reprising their roles from Captain America: Civil War as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Aunt May, alongside Marvel veterans Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark and Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan. New additions to the cast include Michael Keaton (Birdman), Jacob Batalon (North Woods), Michael Barbieri (Little Men), Zendaya (K.C. Undercover), Angourie Rice (The Nice Guys), Tony Revolori (The Grand Budapest Hotel), Logan Marshall-Green (Prometheus), Martin Starr (Silicon Valley), Donald Glover (Community), Laura Harrier (One Life to Live), Kenneth Choi (Captain America: The First Avenger), Hannibal Buress (Broad City), Isabella Amara (The Boss), Jorge Lendeborg, Jr. (Graceland), JJ Totah (Glee), Abraham Attah (Beasts of No Nation), Michael Mando (Better Call Saul), Selenis Leyva (Orange Is the New Black), Bokeem Woodbine (Riddick), Tyne Daly (Cagney & Lacey), Garcelle Beauvais (Hollywood Today Live), Tiffany Espensen (Kirby Buckets), Michael Chernus  (Orange is the New Black), Jona Xiao (Halt and Catch Fire) and Martha Kelly (Baskets). The film is set for release on July 5th in the UK and July 7th in the States.
