Gotham City Sirens still said to be part of Warner’s DCEU slate

The announcement this week that Warner Bros. is developing a Joker and Harley Quinn movie has led to conflicting reports about the status of another DCEU project in the Harley-led female Suicide Squad spinoff Gotham City Sirens.

Some sources have reported that both projects are moving ahead, while others claim the Joker and Harley film has replaced Sirens, and that Suicide Squad David Ayer is now off the project.

Well, Forbes is claiming to have clarification on the situation from a Warner Bros. source, who has reportedly said that Gotham City Sirens remains in development and: “Harley, Catwoman and Poison Ivy are super important to us– And a super cool team, too!”

The report also goes on to claim that Sirens is “very different in terms of concept and the role it plays in the larger DCEU, not to mention nuances of target demographics and character development, compared to Mad Love. So there has been no shift of the concept or project to replace it with a criminal love story featuring Harley Quinn and the Joker.”

Assuming this is all correct, it seems the plan may be for Suicide Squad 2 to come out first, followed by the Joker and Harley movie (which may explore the breakup of their relationship) and then Gotham City Sirens. Although naturally, this being Warner Bros. and DC, plans are presumably subject to change at any given moment.
