Wonder Woman has beaten Deadpool’s global box office takings

August 2, 2017 by Samuel Brace

Wonder Woman has now surpassed Deadpool at the global box office.

The DC superhero movie has managed to add another scalp to its name, with its impressive international receipts meaning that is has now surpassed the tremendous effort of Deadpool.

Deadpool managed to bring in a very impressive $783.1 million back in 2016 but it will have to settle for second best in this contest as Wonder Woman has collected $786 million and counting.

Both films were surprise hits in their own way, with Deadpool being rated-R and starring a somewhat obscure and cult hero, and Wonder Woman coming off the back of a tough time for DC in terms of critical acclaim.

But Wonder Woman managed to win over fans and a good number of critics, helping to set things for DC back on track. At least until Justice League arrives.

The next target for Wonder Woman will be the domestic total of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man – $403 million. Wonder Woman currently sits at $395 million.

Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.

Wonder Woman sees Patty Jenkins (Monster) directing a cast that includes Gal Gadot (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), Chris Pine (Star Trek), Connie Nielsen (Gladiator), Robin Wright (House of Cards), Danny Huston (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), David Thewlis (The Theory of Everything), Ewen Bremner (Snowpiercer), Said Taghmaoui (American Hustle), Elena Anaya (The Skin I Live In), Lisa Loven Kongsli (Force Majeure), Lucy Davis (Shaun of the Dead) and Ann Wolf.
