Chris Hemsworth reveals that he almost turned down the role of Thor

It’s honestly hard to believe anyone other than Chris Hemsworth playing The God of Thunder. For the better part of a decade, the actor has hefted the hammer, and really made the role his own; Thor: Ragnarok being the payoff for all of that hard work, if all of the reviews are to be believed. However, what if we had a different actor playing Thor. Can you picture it? Chris Hemsworth recently revealed to The Sydney Morning Herald that he was very close to turning down the role that made his career:

“I was crossing the road in Vancouver … and I remember the exact moment getting a call from from my lawyer and my manager saying ‘You got the offer.’ And then kind of going ‘Oh wow, cool. So what is it?’ ‘It’s a superhero thing and it’s a six-picture deal.’ And we were like ‘that’s a lot of films to sign up for. We should pass on this.’”

It’s safe to say that things worked out for the best. However, don’t get too attached to Hemsworth in the role. Recently, there has been talk of a female Thor, and don’t forget that not every hero will make it out of Avengers: Infinity War alive. In fact, prepare yourself for a few recasts as the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues on: no actor can play a role forever. In the meantime, we can all enjoy Chris Hemsworth at his absolute best in the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok.

In Marvel Studios’ “Thor: Ragnarok,” Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok—the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization—at the hands of an all-powerful threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger—the Incredible Hulk.

Thor: Ragnarok is being directed by Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows) and features Marvel veterans Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Idris Elba as Heimdall and Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk alongside Cate Blanchett as Hela, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster, Karl Urban as Skurge, Taika Waititi as Korg, Clancy Brown as Surtur, Rachel House as Topaz, Tadanobu Asano as Hogun and Sam Neill in an as-yet-unrevealed role. It is set for release on October 24th in the UK and November 3rd in the States.
