Marvel pulls The Punisher from NYCC in the wake of Las Vegas shooting

October 5, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Following on from the tragic Las Vegas shooting this past Saturday, Marvel and Netflix have announced that they have decided to pull  the panel for the upcoming series The Punisher from the New York Comic Con schedule.

“We are stunned and saddened by this week’s senseless act in Las Vegas,” reads the official statement from the companies. “After careful consideration, Netflix and Marvel have decided it wouldn’t be appropriate for Marvel’s The Punisher to participate in New York Comic Con. Our thoughts continue to be with the victims and those affected by this tragedy.”

The Punisher was scheduled to hold its panel this Saturday, October 7th. Rumours have been swirling that the series is set to hit Netflix this month (with October 13th strongly rumoured), so it remains to be seen whether the companies will opt to postpone the release.

After exacting revenge on those responsible for the death of his wife and children, Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) uncovers a conspiracy that runs far deeper than New York’s criminal underworld. Now known throughout the city as The Punisher, he must discover the truth about injustices that affect more than his family alone.

The Punisher features a cast that includes Jon Bernthal (Frank Castle), Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page), Ben Barnes (Billy Russo), Jason R Moore (Curtis Hoyle), Michael Nathanson (Sam Stein), Daniel Webber (Lewis Walcott), Amber Rose Revah (Dinah Madani), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Micro), Jaime Ray Newman (Sarah Lieberman), Paul Schulze (Bill Rawlins), Shohreh Aghdashloo (Farah Madani), Rob Morgan (Turk Barrett) and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio in an as-yet-unrevealed role.
