Shazam director is anticipating backlash from fans

October 25, 2017 by Samuel Brace

The director of Shazam is anticipating some fan backlash towards the film.

It’s always a tricky business adapting existing material. By bringing beloved characters and storylines to life there comes a good chance that the property’s existing fans won’t be pleased with the choices made.

This comes with the territory, as many a director who has been involved with the task can attest. But this is something that Shazam director, David F. Sandberg, isn’t just ready for but is actively anticipating.

Posting to Twitter recently, the director seemed to be pretty pessimistic about the chances that some fans would react strongly to the film, saying:

“It will be an interesting experience making a movie where no matter what choices are made there will be some who passionately hate you.”

Whether or not this is the right attitude to take is up for debate. Sandberg isn’t wrong, there will always be detractors, but jumping out in front of the train like this likely won’t instil confidence in those already concerned.
