Thor: Ragnarok hammers out $28 million at the international box office

October 27, 2017 by Matt Rodgers

With the rest of the world getting a head start on their third trip to Asgard, audiences have been flocking to Thor: Ragnarok in the three days in which it has been playing in the international market. The Taika Waititi directed Marvel Studios threequel has grossed $28m from the first few days release in 28 markets.

The UK leads the pack with $6.7m, followed by South Korea and France on $3.8m and $3m after just two days.

Records were broken in Australia, where the film delivered the biggest October opening day in history with $2m including previews. Brazil broke their own similar record with $1.6m.

Disney has said that Thor is running just ahead of Doctor Strange in the same markets and it will continue to roll out this weekend into around 52% of the international marketplace.

In Marvel Studios’ “Thor: Ragnarok,” Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok—the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization—at the hands of an all-powerful threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger—the Incredible Hulk.

Thor: Ragnarok is being directed by Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows) and features a cast that includes Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Idris Elba as Heimdall and Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, Cate Blanchett as Hela, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster, Karl Urban as Skurge, Taika Waititi as Korg, Clancy Brown as Surtur, Rachel House as Topaz, Tadanobu Asano as Hogun, Ray Stevenson as Volstagg and Zachary Levi as Fandral.
