Justice League is falling behind Man of Steel at the domestic box office

Justice League is tracking behind the box office takings of Man of Steel at the North American box office.

While Justice League brought in $93 million during its opening weekend – a big number for most films – this was still considered a disappointment when comparing to recent superhero movies and the other films in the DCEU.

This figure was way behind Batman v Superman’s $166 million and even behind Man of Steel ($128 million).

Unfortunately for Justice League, the film is still trailing Man of Steel – which is the lowest grossing DCEU film so far. Justice League has at this point accumulated $174 million in North America after 11 days (via box office mojo) and Man of Steel, at the same time of release, had collected $214 million.

Man of Steel ultimately went on to make $291 million at the domestic box office, comfortably in last place behind Suicide Squad’s $325 million. It will certainly be interesting to see where Justice League ends up falling.

It should go without saying that WB and DC would not have been hoping for their marquee team-up bonanza to be the series’ lowest earner.

Thing are looking better abroad, however, as Justice League is on track to best Man of Steel in international markets.

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League reunites Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta and Robin Wright as General Antiope alongside J.K. Simmons (Whiplash) as Commissioner Gordon, Amber Heard (The Danish Girl) as Mera and Ciaran Hinds (Game of Thrones) as Steppenwolf.
